Spring Market and the Grand Recovery (of my room!)

Hi All,

Spring Market was a success! Whew! I'm glad we pulled that off. At last estimate, we made about $200. After we subtract our supplies' costs and booth rent and add back in some returns I'm going to make to Hobby Lobby, we cleared somewhere around $125. This number might pop up some, depending on how much $ I get us back in returns...

Now--what shall we do with our money? For the newbs, we usually do something charitable or sponsor certain rogues' wishes (funded Raul's fashion show...part-sponsored KC's writing camp...etc.). I want ideas--lots & lots!

And for the sad :( news...we do have two rogues on the chopping block: Alan & Paloma. I love ya'll like a couple of fancy Mexican entrees, but you're going to have to plead your cases profusely to avoid getting axed...

In the category of good news, the rogues at the EDGE of getting cut saved themselves through their investments of time and last-minute production.

This Friday I have PT at 4:00, so I'd like you to plan ahead for a slightly later RogueReading. Yes--it's time we actually get to read again! Yea! Hooray!

Last note: Please come in Monday or Tuesday morning and help clean, sort, arrange, etc.

LOL! It's LoD Day!

It's time to get your fundraising groove on. Today is 4/24...the ominous date for the completion of the LoD. If you have not provided enough sellable goods by the end of school today, you're history, man! Eeeek! So far, things are grim. Many of you...and it's 2:22p...have not contributed what you said you would = :(

I'm not getting too worried yet. You guys have a great way of coming through in the last, dying seconds before a deadline.

Everyone needs to stay after school tomorrow (Friday) to help arrange and organize THE WORLD. And I hope some people drop by today to help out. As for Saturday, you all need to take at least one 4-hour shift: 8-12:00p or 12:00-4:00. The market doesn't close down until 5:00p, so if anyone can linger after the late shift and help Suzanna and me pack up everything, that'd be super (Suzanna won't get off work 'til 4, so she arranged with me to come do the close-down).

It's the LoD-day! Who's gonna get sent packin'? Dun-dun-dunnnnnnnn...

UPDATE: The 4 rogues in attendance today (KT, Brooke, Casey, & Joe) and I decided to give an extension deadline of 4/25, 5:00p for everyone to get their merchandise to me. The LoD still applies to people who do not produce their pledged amount by the new deadline.

T-minus 10 Days And Counting...

I thought it momentous to bring to your attention that we've got, including today, 10 days until the LoD must be completed. All of your contributions must be recorded in the LoD by the end of the day next Thursday. If you've not contributed your full amount by that time, that's it: Sayonara. Goodbye. Now, some of you have asked for an update about your contributions, and I've been slow to give you the info you want BECAUSE (1.) I haven't done the updates in the LoD and (2.) I need you to continue working on stuff even when you've completed your minimum contribution.

For this Friday, I want to plan another work session...but maybe we can actually multitask and get some poetry read, too. --so come prepared both to read/share and work, k? K.

Semi-update

Copied/Pasted from previous posting...

To check out supplies you need to (1) have a project in mind (2) be modest and list all borrowed items on the master check-out list and (3) return left-overs AND finished items promptly. If you check out a tool or one of the boxes of beads, you need to be especially sure to get it back quickly--else you could cause a mighty hold up for someone waiting.

The LoD: The LoD is the List of Doom. It's new--and vicious. In a previous post I explained how important it is that you create 12 items that hold a value of at least $5 each, in terms of retail pricing. I am the one who will keep track of your 12 and I am the one who will evaluate the retail pricing. To that end, I will hold the LoD in which you're doomed if your list doesn't hit or surpass 12 entries. I will enter the date of finish of your item, my evaluation of it ($), and a description of the thing. You must have all of your entries complete and recorded no later than Thursday, April 24.

I reposted that information just so we all stay clear on our goals and procedures.

Today, Friday 4/11, marks the 13-day countdown to when all items for sale must be registered through me on the LoD. So far, we've got much less than what we need to make a good showing. I'm worried about some of you that I'm NEVER seeing...please don't make me worry. Show up and restore my faith and confidence, OK? All of you must fulfill the requirements of this activity or risk being removed from staff: KT, Wade, Margaret, Suzanna, Joe, Bailey, Paloma, Alan, Brooke, and Casey.

Please demonstrate your loyalty to the group by being available, engaged, invested, and present.

This is time for bonding, and partying will definitely ensue!

Get excited!

Supplies Check-Out & the LoD

Alright folks,

Because of over an hour of shopping last Friday, we can certainly count ourselves well-stocked in terms of supplies. We've got a lot and spent right at $100. I'd like to offer my gratitude to Alan, Casey, Suzanna, and Wade for their help--or presence anyhow. Suzanna and Wade both left early, but not before contributing some helpful ideas. Margaret said she'd be there but wasn't...? You all should come in and see the goods and figure out what you might want to check out (to take home) and work on.

To check out supplies you need to (1) have a project in mind (2) be modest and list all borrowed items on the master check-out list and (3) return left-overs AND finished items promptly. I hope to see everyone soon, and let's try for a large attendance this Friday.

To market, to market to buy a fat pig...or not.

A parent's hardest struggle is figuring out how to appropriately motivate his children without enabling them--to offer fair discipline but not be so strict as to restrict creativity... Here's the deal: I've threatened--recently--to cancel our involvement in Spring Market because of the EXTREMELY low attendance at a.m. work sessions. There are more than a few of you I haven't even seen ONCE. We went around the circle at Zink Park, and I had each of you argue your case about whether you'd be supportive of the event. All but Wade were on board. I was iffy... You're making me believe now, in these days where we SHOULD be working, that you lied about your commitment (the majority of you), and a lie must have a consequence.

So--back to my opening to this post--I'm trying to figure out what a fair punishment will be for that lie. I don't want to enable you to go on into life making commitments, then not fulfilling them, and feeling no punishment. You need to learn that there are consequences. But I want the consequences not to be too strict, else I punish unnecessarily hard and in doing so, damage the larger morale of the group. Do you recognize my dilemma?

Personally, I have committed to doing Spring Market; that's why I haven't cancelled outright. And what I've decided to do as 'punishment' is as follows: To secure your current spot as a member of RogueStaff, you will have to create a minimum of 12 sellable objects by within a week of Market. Twelve--and they have to be approved of by me before they count toward your twelve. I will keep a notebook of your contributions. You can do the work at home; you can do the work at school. You can do the work at a weekend event we'll have sometime. The work can consist of beaded necklaces or random art projects. Each item of work should represent a thing we could sell for at least $5. And yes, five small items that might sell for $1 each could represent ONE of your twelve total items.

If you fail to produce your twelve, you will forfeit your position on staff. I will count your lack of commitment as an equivalent offense of BoDs to get you kicked off without probation.

That's an executive decision that cannot/will not be argued.

This Friday: Those of you who show will come shopping with me for art supplies so long as your parents are down with that. It will sub-in for a normal reading, but we'll try to scrape off some time for that, too. We'll do our shopping at the Hobby Lobby @ 51st/Harvard, by the way. Please post if you'll be at the meeting so I can make a list and figure out if I need to raise my back seats...
