The Brookside Library wants to have our baby!

Alright. After little consideration of other venues, I contacted the Brookside Library about our meeting there--in their meeting room. Guess what? They're down! We've got 12 meetings slated there--every Friday until the middle of November. The head librarian said we can go to Quik Trip (right across the street), get coffee there--or snacks, whatever--and bring them to our meetings (so long as we clean up after ourselves). It's a BIG meeting room, but there are doors that close it off from the rest of the library to make the space more private. There are tables. There are chairs. There's room to dance (or make ritual sacrifices)! Sooooo this Friday will be our first meeting there. We've got the space just until 5:15p, so we need to get there as soon as possible. In future weeks, we can stay until 5:30-45ish. I made an executive decision on this because we need a reliable venue.

The Brookside Library is on 45th & Peoria (actually it's on 45th just W of Peoria), conveniently located behind a Salvation Army thrift store (HOW PERFECT IS THIS?!).

And that's all I've got to say. Except: Be sure you have at least 2 good, complete poems to share on Friday. It'll be Margaret's first Roguevent, so we need to be put together.

Much love.

Few new things...

Morning all,

I've got a few things to discuss as we start another week. First of all, at Friday's meeting--because we had quorum of active members--we decided to invite Margaret on staff. If you'd like to read her essay, just stop by my room and ask for it. It's compelling, especially with her closure, "Take me, Rogue!"

Next, I'm worried about our Friday venue. SoB is consistently busy around 4:10ish. Last Friday there was a line of about 4 people and both rooms were taken. If I had ANY confidence in the room-reservation process at SoB, there'd be no concerns--but we all know how well that has worked in the past. Friday, we rerouted to Saffron, about which Joe's "just mad" (kept singing that dang song the whole time we were there), but it was weird in an uncomfortable way. Creepy, sort of. And it's not particularly convenient to most of you. So...what do you propose? The Brookside Library may have a room we could use, but that means (probably) no food/drink. Most restaurants that have small private rooms require food purchase to justify letting the space--so that's probably out. Think, folks, think. Then post.

Finally, I'm reinstating the 3 poems "rule". We may let you slide with 2 good, complete works, but aim for 3. Last week was OK because of it's being the first week of school and all--but this week we need to strive to have ample poetry--especially if we're going to invite Margaret.

Enjoy your day,

Rogue SPeCtaCULaR!

Wow am I ever inspired after yesterday's meeting!

Because Kaytee was the only rogue with fresh poetry, we--Kaytee, Raul, Wade, Joe, and I--brainstormed recruitment, fundraising, and RogueNight. In brief, we decided that we will advertise to recruit new staffers ASAP, but we will only accept Soph-Sr applicants prior to RogueNight. Any freshmen who apply will not be fully considered until after they've attended the fall RogueNight. As for fundraising, we're back on board for button making. I'm looking into prices for supplies. We've got $50ish in our 'bank'...we'll see what we can do. Buttons, bumper stickers...and t-shirts. Maybe something else, too--can't 'member. Finally, we're adding spectacle! back to RogueNight. We may follow something of a circus theme in a post-Carnivale production. We're focusing on streamlining snackbar conversion so that it really feels different--like a big tent or gypsy nest. I've got some ideas of things I'd like Rogue to buy...that's why we're talking fundraising again.

To repeat myself, I'm really feeling energized about RogueStuff this year. !!!

The Groove

Oh, it's true. 'Time to get back into the groove of things. I'm essentially back at school at this point (although you wouldn't know it by looking because I tend to ditch my meetings pretty much always). And you all have a precious few days left of freedom = :( ! But our being back in the groove means that a routine is easier to establish and maintain, so that's kind of good. In that vein, shall we SoB this Friday? I can swing it, just not until around 3:30ish - 4:00ish. Who's in? I think Jennie, Katrina, KC, and Raul may be working right now and Jessie's out of town. That leaves Kaytee, Wade, Joe, Deena, and me.

...that'd be a teeny SoB, but I'm game.

Tricky

Morning all,

Arranging/Coordinating some carpooling to the pow wow could be tricky, but let's see how it works out. I'm going to be at the flea market pretty much all day--until 4:00p-ish. For that reason, I will say now that I can be a leg of the carpool--but you all will need to organize it here in our forum so when the time draws near we're all on the same page.

We need to try to be to the pow wow by 6:30p, meaning meet at the entrance to go in on the family fare. The pow wow is in the Expo building, the one behind the giant driller dude, and the entrance is on the backside (north facing) of that building.

You can reach me by phone any time during the day if you need me.

Fri/Sat

Morning all,

SoB Friday? It's up to you. I can tell you I cannot make it because I'll be setting up my booth at the Tulsa Flea Market. Raul & KC may have interviews/new jobs, so I'm not sure if they're available or when...Joe's out of town. But--?

Pow wow Saturday? I'd like to do this if at all possible. I mean, I'm available and will be there--and would like whoever can come to do so. It's not to be missed. I'd hate to think of some of you going into your adult lives with no sense of the history of our state's original inhabitants. OK. That sounded a little too formal. What I really want you to experience is the spirit of the thing. It's powerful--like poetry only in drums and dancing.

It's going to reach 106 today. Find a cool or breezy spot and don't overexert.

Decorating 101

OK. For those of you who want to come help decorate, here are the times I'll be at school this week working: Tuesday afternoon (1:00p - 6:00p ish), Wednesday & Thursday (times TBA when I know the timing of other commitments and the relative state of my classroom after Tuesday's work).

Now, regarding the drive-in...it's mighty hot, folks. Mighty hot. I'm still on board, but let me suggest as an alternative:

If you've never been to a pow wow, you're missing out.

Thoughts?

73rd & Admiral

That's the intersection nearest the drive-in. If you guys want to do the drive-in, I'm on board. SoB could work, too. Oh, AND--if some of you could find it in your hearts to come to school at some point and help me with the disaster that is my unpacked room, that'd rock. There could be pizza in it in exchange for hard work and creative decorating.

It's Sunday morning! I love Sunday mornings!

Friday SoB--Your anecdotes are due.

People's preferences for a time for SoB on Friday seem to vary. Let's agree to meet at 2:30p. Come early; stay late.

For the 5 of you who went to the creek, please have your handwritten or typed anecdotes ready for me at that time. I want to slip them all into a card for Jessie to deliver back to her parents that day. PLEASE don't neglect to do this; your inattention to this will translate as poor manners and ingratitude.

Alright.
