Monday Updates

1.) I'm locking in on the silhoutte/screen idea. I'll take care of the details.
2.) Door prizes will be themed and non-bizarre; we (Jessie, Wade, & I) bought 4 at the $1 Tree. In addition to those, we'll give out a couple of copies of Rogue.
3.) The balloon pit is off.
4.) A sort of XL nonmagnetic poetry is in the planning phases (as a replacement for the pit).
5.) There's a big stereo in the snack bar--under the microwave cart. We should test it out.
6.) Jessie, Wade, & I spent $r30 (that's 30 Rogue dollars, like pounds Sterling) on decor, door prizes, and hangers. Some of the stuff will be re-usable. Some will be discarded. If you've not procured table coverings, don't. I think what we bought will be re-usable, so Rogue can buy those and retain them for future use.
7.) We need to gather our chalk/string/paper/tacks for the bulletin board wall of poetry.
8.) Bring your table stuff tomorrow.
9.) Don't forget cookies.
10.) Button production is better than I'd hoped. We could make some serious $r!

At this point, RogueNight stands to be very different from all years previous. And I like it. It proves the dynamic nature of a dynamic group.

We're returning to our roots: Theme colors are black, red, and white (with silver accents). We've got red coverings for the windows, white for the tables, some red & black accents for decor, plus whatever you guys do in terms of placecards, printed poems, bios, pix, etc. of your poet.

I've washed the t-shirts, and I am about to put 'em in the dryer, so that'll be done.

What did I leave out? Comment what you need to, and please try to check the site often. We're 70 hours from RogueNight.

As for our sick Rogues (who now number 3), get good rest and drink lots of fluids. If it's sore throat, gargle with salt water (don't swallow), ramp up your vitamins, add garlic to your EVERYTHING (natural antibiotic qualities--in case of strep), and drink chamomile tea to soothe your throat (every 2 hours anyhow).

New Idea & Table Decor Reminder, etc.

OK. I'm going to make this short--but I just had a vision of a skrim on our tiny stage in the snackbar and a spotlight. The poet would not be viewable while reading except for by shadowy silhoutte. It would be cool looking and may make the poet more at ease to read with feeling. I can explain more if this is unclear. Edit-->If we string up a sheet to block the view of the podium, mic, and reader and put a really bright spotlight-type light on stage BEHIND the person, the effect to the audience would be just the silhoutte of a person reading. The audience would have to focus on the words, the voice--not the person. And the reader would feel more at ease without thinking people are staring at them directly. Unless there is any good reason NOT to do this, I want to try it. The effect of our whole night could be revamped by this and our unified table decor. I like the idea of change.

Edit-->Also, I had this idea: Door prizes. It can be something we advertise this week if you guys like the idea. We can put #s on the placecards where people will be sitting. At random times during the reading, we can draw a number and give out a totally weird $1 Store gift.

Edit-->Last (for edits), I want us to autograph 20 copies of '06-'07 Rogue. We will give these to patrons who donate $5 or more for a copy of Rogue. Every year some people, when they hear that the cost of Rogue is "suggested" $1.00 but "donations are welcome," they over-pay just to be nice. I would like to reward that generosity with a special copy of Rogue. We can make an annoucement to that effect at the top of RogueNight.

Next, remember: Table decor needs to be completely ready by Tuesday--not just a representative sampling of what you plan to do, but ALL of what you're going to do needs to be done. There are 11 tables. Some people (3) need to do 2. Volunteers?

I'm thinking that we need to do a $1 Tree run tomorrow afternoon...maybe 5:00p-ish. Takers?

I think that's all for now. I'll post a comment if I think of anything I've left out. By the way, my conference in Norman was fun.

Notice Delivery, Signage, & Our Window

Updates:

Notice Delivery started today. We will need to wrap this up tomorrow. If you have 2nd or 3rd hour classes that may allow your absence, please stop by before school and I'll write you a pass. I want the notices to "hit" about the same time to all names on our list so we look at least rather put-together.

Signage started yesterday and continued today. We need more signs going up tomorrow. I have procured clear tape; it's yours 'til it's gone. If you can assist the FEW people who have been helping these last couple of days, please stop by before school and get involved.

The window/case outside the snackbar needs redone. If you have a cool, vibrant & visually intriguing idea for its renovation, please post it and bring supplies to accomplish it. We need to retake the window ASAP. I want it to be attention grabbing so it will really function in helping us drum up attention for our event.

Miscellaneous sale of goods needs to be assessed. We've got some sell-able buttons and shirts. We need to inventory those goods and get a clear idea of what we still may want to create for RogueNight sales. We usually do pretty well in terms of bringing in donations, but at $5 per t-shirt, we take in a LOT of our profit there. I need someone to take the responsibility of inventorying what we've got and preparing it for sale.

Reality Check...

We're within 1.5 weeks of RogueNight '06-'07. It's not this Thursday but next. That's soon. Take heed: We need daily activity/bonding as we prepare. This event will only be as good as the preparation that goes into it. That true, I am asking you all to meet every morning in my room at 8:15a--earlier is fine. I will have to be deaf to excuses. I need you to do what it takes to be in my room early every day. For this week, since I'm out of town Friday, I need you Wednesday and Thursday mornings. For next week, I need you all mornings Monday - Thursday. I will excuse one absence; the rest will be Doomable. If you do not have a permapass, come and get a fresh one from me.

Comment w/i 48 hours (Tues or by Wed night) to avoid the BoD.

Signs & Readers, Buttons and the $1 Tree

I am posting 3 near-future goals for you to consider:

(1) I want to start our sign campaign Monday, 2/19. You need to provide 20 signs. They are due on Monday and if you do not have them. . . BoD for you! Your signs need to have some or all of this information in some way portrayed: RogueNight Thursday Night 7:00p 3/1 Free Coffee Live Poetry Reading Free Admission Rogue T-Shirts for sale--$5.00 "GWs" awarded to Wallace's students who check in with Easter. Be sure that when you look over ALL of your signs that you've represented all of that information at least somewhere a couple of times.

(2) I need 2 people (only) to work with me in getting notices out to our readers about reading at RogueNight. I want only 2 people because in the fall when we did this, it was chaos...and people were left out from even receiving a notice that they were published.

(3) I need 2 OTHER people to work with me in getting buttons prepared for sale. I want 100 ready to sell...more if possible for future sale at Spring Market.

(4) Please plan and prepare your table decorations. Also, it's going to be time next week one day to meet and go to the $1 Tree and select tablecloths, tape, etc. to use in covering the windows/lights, etc. We'll go in debt to me and pay me back from RogueNight proceeds.

This Friday, we'll SoB @ SoB. Be sure to have your 2 or 2+ poems...the BoD looms!

New Table Decor Theme & the BoD

It's Sunday night, and I'm just getting 'round to posting this...but it IS still the weekend, so I guess I'm not terribly behind yet--

In case you missed it, and I don't know how you could've, we're ALL adopting Suzanna's idea of theming tables according to our favorite poets. Here's the list of rogues and their poets:

KC--MLE D
Wade--Poe
Jessie--TS Eliot
joe--e. e. cummings
Margaret--Morrison
Suzanna--Wilde
KT--undecided-ish (maybe a trio of her favs)
E*--Whitman (duh)

Now pay attention:

Since I have reborn the Book of Doom (heretofore termed BoD) I will be using it to discourage your being disconnected.

For instance, if you do not post a comment w/ 48 hours of my making a new entry, you'll be marked in the BoD and notified HERE. 3 entries in the BoD and you're OUT. I've told you that you may check from my PC at school, so you've got no reason not to check except for your being lazy or disconnected.

It's almost RogueNight, and I don't want it to suck. Most of you have not done a RogueNight before, and you've NO idea what we've got ahead. I know I keep saying that, but you won't be able to truly believe me until you've lived through one.

I'm serious about keeping up with the BoD.

The Master Calendar

...this just in: We are on the Master Calendar for 3/1. It was approved today. That means we can hesitate no longer to prepare all details for RogueNight.

This week's goal: At our SoB this Friday, bring back your detailed ideas for your table theme. Do it! If you do not present me with specific, detailed plans for your table (add sketches to help if you have a hard time conveying your ideas in words) you will receive an absence in the Book of Doom.

Please everyone try to have at least 2 poems to share this week.

Here we are--

Here we are. It is the fourth of February. We've got just under a month to get stuff ready for RogueNight, including the following: (1) plan out decorations (2) figure out how to pull off a 'theme' (3) prep t-shirts for sale (4) prep buttons for sale & (5) get our readers rounded up and practiced.

I am relieved to have academic bowl season closed. It was a brilliant season, don't get me wrong, but it was hard to reconcile its needs with those of Rogue at times in my head. With more time to focus on RogueNight and more time for me to work on my own planning and organizing, I hope to get comfortable with time tables and dates for afterschool Rogue work within a week or so. I will ask you for your availabilties, so please have an idea of your work/activity schedules in advance.

Let's start trying to revive our excitement for RogueNight so that our energy will help to propel us to success.

Big Heart 12,

Easter
