Man, am I glad...

Friday at last--man, am I glad. I'm pooped, I say. Thankfully, while the stream of parents to my room last night was unending, it wasn't as densely populated as it was in the fall. I got to take my time more and discuss interesting topics with families in addition to the regular rigor of grades/behavior. Nevertheless, it wore me out, so I'm glad it's nearly the weekend.

Things that are on my mind regarding upcoming weekends:
(1) we need to pick a date for the garage sale
(2) we need to canvas the school to drum up sacks-'o-crap to sell
(3) we need to arrange some Sundays for our work on t-shirts and jewelry

Anyone have a calendar? Bring it today to SoB.

Alas, it is 6:45a, and I must get ready for Parent Onslaught ver. 2.0.

Graj Sayl!

Alright. It's time to gather S-T-U-F-F! Ask your family, friends, neighbors. Think about old bikes, lawn chairs, lawn mowers, sporting goods, exercise apparatuses, kids' toys, books, clothes/shoes, kitchen/household goods. Knick-knacks are the sustaining force in most garage sales, so we want a lot of those, too, but they usually don't sell for much so...keep that in mind. And jewelry! We need to get together for some beading events so that we can sell your creations at the garage sale. I'm going to see if I can get an email sent out to all teachers about our endeavor. If we can get teachers to bring in stuff for us to sell we could have a really big sale!

Also, we need to decide on either noon or 1:00p for SoB Friday...thoughts?

Last, I looked into getting us a booth at the Edison Spring Market. It's $50-75 for a booth, but we've got that kind of money in our account. Further, we've got more left over to buy t-shirts and paint with. I think we sell t-shirts and jewelry we'll make a ton of money. What do you think? The Spring Market is April 22...

Conjurations

And a lovely Saturday morning to you all! I've been up since just past 6a--even went out for breakfast with my parents. Heck, yeah I did. Anyhow, I'm making this entry for a specific reason: We need to conjure up a way (or some ways) of raising funds for Casey & Raul--neither of whom has asked we do this. It's my idea. At SoB yesterday some of you had ideas. Post them again here if they fit within our parameters. OK. So I guess I should remind you what our parameters are...

(1) The event must take place off school property.
(2) The event must take place by the end of April (when's your show, R?).

Remember: The reason we must do whatever we do off school grounds is that we're not fund-raising for our group, per se. We're just wanting to make some cash and hand it over to whom we please.

Casey & Raul: What should be our target $ goal? Would $200ea be right? I think we could raise $400 doing something... Do we need to aim higher?

The rest of you need to get creative and come up with ideas. Now. Yesterday! A week ago!

thaw

What a sloppy, drippy, day of thaw. While a bit of a hassle, the thaw does offer an interesting texture to life. I like looking out my window on a yard wet from thaw and seeing the drops cascading from my roof into my field of vision, giving the impression of rain when it's not raining. I hope you all are enjoying the thaw in your own ways.

I gave myself a wicked evil papercut today. Ouch! I sliced open my finger on matboard, so the cut was oddly deep and bloody. But I'm really not complaining; I was doing something artistic at the time, and, well, art has its price.

Alright. About tomorrow: 4:00p @ SoB. Bring 2 or 3 poems (couldn't make up my mind, Wade). If you all have 3, bring 3. Our numbers will be down, so we should have ample time to read them all. If you have 2, that's A-OK, too.

I can't feel my fingers!

Oh, out on this! What's going on with the weather? I adjusted my thermostat weeks ago so that my house wouldn't be so warm on otherwise warm days, but it's an OLD house, and now that it's friggin' cold I can't go changing the thermostat back or my furnace will get naughty and refuse to work altogether. What does all of this = ? Frozen fingers. Seriously. If it doesn't get above 40 today, I'll be thoroughly pissed. Or hypothermic.

My muse, much like myself, has, apparently, gone on spring break. An occasional poetic thought will flit through my mind, but I can't seem to catch one to write down and develop. I sure hope I come up with something soon...would hate to arrive at SoB with nothing new! How are you all faring?

Being home during the day reminds me (1) how lame daytime TV is and (2) how much I love mocking it and throwing balled up socks at the screen.

Two fat doves; Katrina's sick.

So the two subjects in this post's title have nothing to do with each other except for the fact that I saw both Katrina's statement and the below image about the same time...and I thought they would make a scandalous title...

I'm looking out my office window, and I see two fat mourning doves atop my swingset. Doves go in pairs, you know; it's oddly comforting seeing them all fluffed out and intermittently enduring and enjoying the morning. I hope you all are enjoying your mornings--whether alone or with someone you prefer.

So let me get this right: Joe & Wade went to see "She's the Man" because they're not seventeen and therefore couldn't get into "V". I think this is what we call poetic justice. Although a friend of mine wants to see the she-man movie, so perhaps it's not that awful. Oh, and Katie thinks I don't trust that you all wouldn't wreak havoc on the blue-hairs in parking lots on rainy days AND that I'm secretly a biker. Both are true, so V = Victory for Katie. OK. Both aren't true: I do trust you unconditionally in parking lots.

It's another great day for writing, friends. I hope to hear a lot of good material come Friday. Oh, yeah--we're SoBing on Friday. I hadn't made that clear with any certainty. What's say...4:00p like usual?

Hey Raul, why don't you bring some of the designs I'm sure you'll dream up after perusing your magazinotta?

Rock, paper, scissors...

It's a coin toss, it seems. What aspect of my house will I clean today? And how much time will I allow myself to muse and write poetry. These are the things I like most about spring break (cleaning & writing). On that note, let me encourage you all to do some of the same of both. Cleaning declutters the brain and allows you to think better--honest! There's something about watching the ordering of disorder that locks into the brain's perspective and improves its function. I am consciously aware of it because I have a pattern of letting certain places in my house fall into disorder only to pounce on them at last and restore them from chaos.

Those of you planning on going to the movies need to be sure to be very careful in the parking lots through which you'll be walking as you travel around the shopping center. The rain distracts people, and they don't drive as well as a result--nor do they see small moving objects, like young people, darting about.

I have to admit that an hour in a bookstore or coffeeshop on a rainy day is enticing. If I can get enough work done, I may meet you at B & N for half an hour or so before you go on to the movies--but I may not, so don't wait/look for me. I mean, what's been planned is unofficial so my being there would be a chance occurrence anyhow.

Enjoy your day, darlings.

Spring Break Blues

Oh, man! I wish it could be sunny and rainy at once; I mean, it does do that sometimes in OK, you know. All of this straight dreariness is bumming me out. I should be cleaning, rearranging, catching up on chores--but all I'm inclined to do revolves around the sofa. And I'm not reupholstering it, lest you misinterpret my slovenliness. Oh, well. I'll make an artificial sunshine in my house by putting on all lamps and lights and see if that motivates me not to waste the day.

If you all put something together for tomorrow, that's A-OK with me, of course, BUT: If you get together as Rogue (meaning 3 or more of you meet), you need to remember the image you're projecting...and keep it reasonable. I'm saying this basically for the sake of the newbies who haven't acclimated to our policies. I prefer that you not watch rated R movies (especially those of you who are not 17); I prefer that you not publicly use profanity or do idiotic things that may reflect badly on our group as a whole. Being a Rogue takes moderation and consideration; please don't abuse your privileges.

Thinking toward the end of the week...if we want to consider a Friday SoB, we should think now. What might be a good time? Would you want to meet around a meal hour at some place different? If the weather is nice, we could go to Woodward again.

Last, let me say I'm glad to see Wade & Katie have found blogspot. Hopefully Tina will follow through soon. And as for the rest of you, well, good on you, too.

Happy Spring Break! Hope you like soggy.

New members?

Alright, folks. Unless anyone has any real objection(s) about the addition of our 2 prospective new rogues, I think we will send them 'official' invitations in the next day or so--so they can be at SoB this Friday. Tina will be out of town, and Jennie & Deena won't be there. As long as the rest of you will be, we'll make it OK.

I'm now going to suggest something that you may or may not like: Limit yourselves to 2 poems this week--just as a trial. Write as many as you want/can, but bring only 2 you really dig. Here's my rationale: I feel like anything beyond 2 each doesn't really keep people's attention--and I feel we rush a bit, too, when only several people have additional poems.

While I've got your attention, let's all do our best to ATTENTIVELY listen to each other's material. Last week we had people (1) writing and not listening, (2) sleeping and not listening, (3) daydreaming--obviously looking around and not listening, and (4) actually visiting quietly and not listening. I've been meaning to bring this up for the last 2 weeks...we cannot establish a pattern of indifference about our readings or we'll need to hold them less frequently.

YEAH! TAKE THAT, BIZNITCHES.

It's THAT time again...

Alright, so we've been tossing around this idea of either posting signs about our interest in adding staffers or making an announcement about it. Jessie suggested we submit an announcement today, but I resisted because of Eyrie's timeline. The rude young ladies that came into one of my classes this afternoon to pass out Eyries stuff announced that Eyrie's deadline is Friday. If that's the case, I think we should use next week as our one-week campaign for new staff. It'll be the week before spring break, so we could look over any applicants' material during the break and respond the following week. What do you think about this? Also, if we PLAN AHEAD (meaning: work some this week on signs, etc.), we'll be better prepared next week to truly accomplish our mission.

One of our two potential new rogues mentioned to me today that she will be at SoB Friday. That's cool. The other has said nothing, but I'm pretty sure he's currently out-of-commission for his sporting event, so if he's got nothing pre-planned in that timeslot, I expect he'll be there, too. Deena and Jennie will not be at the meeting, but I hope the rest will be present. It would look really sh*tty if people don't show. Joe's going to try to come around 5:00ish once he's free from practice.

I think it'd also be kind of cool if some of us wear our Rogue shirts on Friday.

Get writing, dearies. Let's shoot for 3 and settle for 2.

It'z Phrydei

Oh, I'm so ready for a weekend. Since it's 12:06p and we've not yet had SoB, I will predictively say that the poetry was great today and that I was glad to see all of you there. Of course, 'all of you' excludes Deena since she has realized that she didn't actually get fired from her job...she'll be wrangling kids while we're wrangling a muse.

Today officially ends the xangasite's deadline for new staff essays. We've got one. We need to seriously look into extending our deadline and widening our nets.

Thoughts?
