New Goals for a New Year
I want to challenge you all to continue writing regularly during the new year; in fact, I think we might need to amend our "code" to include a number of meetings during a semester that a person can come without material. But my real goal for you all hinges on something KC told KT at our last SoB. She told her she should submit her stuff to contests.Since the inception of Rogue I have held that as a goal (encouraging submitting to contests) but have never acted on it--I mean, WE all think each other's stuff is great, but I think there are objective critics out there who will, too. And the only way to know is to get competitive. Whatcha think? If we make some money on Rogue buttons and @ RogueNight, we can buy some publications that list contests. I know there's a book called Writers' Market that has been published yearly for many years. It has both contest information AND leads on how to get anything from essays to novels in front of the eyes of editors at publishing houses. There are magazines, too. I would say we could research it all online for free...but who has the time or follow-through to do this thoroughly?Think on it, kiddos. As we prepare for the new year, consider where you were this time last year for perspective--then imagine where you want to be this time next year. When we engage the flow of cosmic energy we can manifest our desires. Yeah, that's about as preachy as I'll get w/ you'ns.Much love,Easter
Where to read poetry in the rain...?
It looks like rain for Friday. Are there any special requests for where we might go to (1) enjoy the potential rain AND (2) enjoy reading new poetry? Some venue with windows would be nice--or, if it weren't too chilly--the pavillion in Woodward might work out. Hmmm...I guess we can hold SoB in our back pocket, but if it's raining it sure would be nice to enjoy it.As for time--well, 2:00p seemed to work for everyone last time, so unless there are major conflicts, I will set that as the meeting time. (And, again, tentatively, SoB as the place.)My coffee just quit brewing, so I'm off to get a cup and work on a few poems that were born yesterday.Luv ya, punkins,Easter
Christmas Eve
Happy Christmas Eve, all! Or, for those who prefer, happy belated solstice! I am glad we were able to gather last evening. Thank you all for bringing goodies to share--it's always nice to do a pot-luck type party: There are so many snacks to sample!I hope you all take time over the next several days to reflect on the year, do some good writing, and be prepared for an SoB late next week.Stay warm, dearies--it's a little chilly out today.Heart 12,Easter
Friday SoB & Saturday Party
Since everyone else is asking, I will, too: Are we SoBing today? I posted Monday that I was leaving this up to you all to arrange. So hop to it! Post &/or call people to inform. As for tomorrow, remember: All need to bring a snack & be at my house around 5:30p. The party will be over around 8:30p. If you need my address (and most of you probably do), get it from me today at SoB (whenever that'll be--hint, hint: Someone suggest a time!) or text my cell, and I'll text you back my address. You can mapquest it for directions. 857-4035.Jessie: My (Our, I'm sure) thoughts are with your family. Easter
Saturday RogueParty
Unless there is huge inconvenience with this time frame, the Rogue Party will run from 5:30p - 8:30ish at my house.Movie? Undecided. Bring what you want; we'll decide later, I guess.Food? Bring a snack (sweet or salty, normal or Katie).Ritual Sacrifice? Optional (Braden Park has fire pits, and I've got charcoal).Drink? I'll provide water and coffee; if you want a different beverage, bring it.Paper? I'll have plates, napkins, & cups. The night's revelry will include playing 'Dirty Santa', eating snacks, and watching a movie. Please plan to help clean up afterward; it will not require much effort if everyone hangs out long enough to get things back in order.I probably don't have to say this, but just in case: This party is NOT open to outsiders. It just fouls up the whole rogue-bonding concept when other people contaminate our vibe.Heart 12,Easter
Party Date Set
...KC can't come to the party either day; Margaret can't come if it's Friday--so I guess let's set the date for Saturday for the party and as for Friday SoB, well, I'm leaving that in your hands. For the party, we can consider food. But we've got no Rogue funds currently because RogueNight (a.k.a. MoneyMakingNight) got snowed out and I spent the remaining funds on the button maker & supplies. In that vein, you all either need to (1) bring stuff or (2) bring $ to buy stuff (like pizza). For the record, my vote is for you to just bring snacky-type things (chips, dip, salsa, cheese, cookies, etc.); however, if you want to organize a larger dinner-type event, someone will need to BE that (take care of all the details, money, ordering, picking up, etc.).Hooray for the holiday season. Solstice is just 3 days away! And Christmas is just a week!I'm holiday fool.Easter
Booyah!
Oh. I am SO back online. And it feels good. It's been a month, I think...and while it looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do (reading your posts, etc.) I will probably just let 'em go.On to business: The Rogue Solstice Party will be either next Friday or Saturday. I don't care which. I guess I will ask you to tell me what's better for you. Post your opinion. Start thinking about what you might want. I think we did snacks in the past...just stuff you guys brought. I'm down with that. Post your opinion on that, too. If we settle on finger foods, we'll begin working out who will bring what (cups, plates, napkins, sweet snack, salt snack, etc.).It's 3:41p, and I'm bailing offline now, as I'm just already sort of tired of sitting here (been installing stuff and getting DSL back up and running for about 2 hours).Heart 12,Easter
Friday, December 8th
After much discussion, it was decided that tomorrow's meeting will be held at Shades of Brown from 3:45 to 5:15 (or whenever people get there). The couch room is reserved, and alums are definitely invited tomorrow, what with the snow day and all...Easter will be gone from school tomorrow, along with Wade and me -- fear not. The meeting goes on.
We still need to discuss a more permanent meeting place, as it's usually hard to get a room at SoB. Also on the (dare I say it?) agenda is picking a new date for RogueNight.
I had several positive comments about my new Rogue shirt, and some people asking if they could buy one this year. I wonder if we printed enough shirts?
